Construction has begun on the largest building in the world.

Construction has begun in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on the largest building in the world, “The Cube.” This massive project, part of the future “New Square” initiative, is expected to be completed by 2030.

“The Cube” will reach a height of 1,300 feet and a width of 1,200 feet upon completion, dramatically altering the skyline compared to 20 Empire State Buildings.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing future construction projects, the “Cube” project was unveiled by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman last year as part of the ambitious Vision 2030 plan. This massive development, covering an area of two million square meters, will be located at the intersection of King Salman Road and King Khalid Road, northwest of Riyadh. The project will provide residential units, commercial offices, restaurants, and retail shops, featuring a total of 104,000 units.

“The Cube” will feature virtual reality technology on its exterior walls and will be equipped with AI-supported holographic displays inside to showcase various facts, timelines, and locations. The New Square Development Company has also revealed that green spaces will be interconnected, allowing access from any point within the structure in just 15 minutes.

In addition to green spaces and residential areas accommodating over 100,000 people, the company plans to offer approximately 9,000 hotel rooms. The vision includes creating a city within a cube that provides an engaging experience for visitors, featuring a massive screen on the exterior, similar to the one in Las Vegas. According to the plan, there will also be space for recreational activities, community facilities, and a rotating tower for scenic views and rooftop dining.

The company announced in a statement that the $50 billion project is inspired by regional Najdi architectural design. This style is characterized by mud buildings with rectangular or triangular door and window openings, often featuring a central outdoor courtyard.

The massive “Cube” project, aimed at developing Saudi Arabia and building a futuristic city, is expected to contribute approximately $51 billion to the non-oil GDP and create around 334,000 job opportunities. Work on the project, launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2022, is set to be completed by 2030. Currently, the project has already employed 900 workers.
